AR-01 REMIX
I worked with Wily Cycleworks to remix my AR-01, the ENVE Fray. Switched to a 1x Aero set-up for all-road and fast adventure gravel rides or the rest of the fall and winter season. For starters, I pulled the summer pizza energy off the ENVE 4.5’s and added all-new custom F&F aluminum foil landscape labels from Groundkeeper’s Custom in Bellingham and dialed in the drivetrain within my preferred SRAM ecosystem. The RED 48T crank with power meter is a perfect match for the 10-49 RED XPLR system. I also threw in the Ceramic Speed OSPW and with a Ceramic Speed BB, bro, we’re quickly off the chain.
The ENVE Fray is a rad but, weird bike — in a great way. I love that it’s a bit undetermined, it’s not fixed. Which means it can kind of be whatever you want it to be, within reason of a 40 mm tire. But I’ve also found that a 45 mm fits. So, with the 1x set-up, I went for the Rene Herse Steilacoom in a 38 mm width in an endurance casing. Bonus vibes for the all-black limited edition too, from my treasure chest. Combined with the drivetrain and snappy feel of the bike, these tires dial in the aggressive, get-it feel of this rig. No doubt, the ENVE Aero bar in a 39 mm width is the final touch for this feeling: fast, confident, and direct.
I get called a fiddler by the crew, but IDGAF, since I’m always down to shift my perspective. And that’s what makes the ENVE bike line-up so fire. Within the ecosystem of their offerings, including the wheels and components, you can flex your ride in as many directions as you can take them. It’s been awhile since I’ve made the big voyage north from T-Town on my super loop; really hoping this pulls me into it again over the dark months ahead. Maybe, I’ll crack that 20 mph club someday. Or just create more peak experiences, since THAT, is what it’s all about. Get dialed at Wily Cycleworks!
